WORF Launches Women in Green Tech Innovation Programme with Women Win

The Women in Recycling Foundation (WORF) has launched the Women in Green Tech Innovation for Circular Economy Programme, a two-year initiative supported by Women Win through the FREE STEM Fund. The programme will equip 100 girls and young women aged 15–30 from Kinondoni and Ubungo municipalities with practical digital, technological and entrepreneurial skills.

The programme responds to the continued underrepresentation of young women in technology, software development and green innovation. Although digital technology offers growing opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship and environmental problem-solving, many young women from underserved communities still face barriers to accessing computers, technical training, mentorship and professional networks.

Through four training cohorts, participants will receive practical training in computer literacy, coding, website and software development, application development, digital tools and entrepreneurship. The training will combine classroom learning, hands-on assignments, mentorship and collaborative innovation sessions, enabling participants to learn by developing solutions to real challenges within their communities.

A core feature of the programme is the connection between technology and the circular economy. Participants will be encouraged to explore how digital tools can improve waste collection, recycling, environmental education, market access and community participation. They will develop ideas such as waste-tracking systems, recycling information platforms, digital marketplaces and community applications that respond to environmental and economic challenges.

Beyond technical skills, the programme will strengthen participants’ confidence, creativity, leadership and problem-solving abilities. They will also receive entrepreneurship support to help them understand how digital ideas can be transformed into viable products, services, employment opportunities or women-led enterprises.

The first cohort was launched in July 2026, bringing together more than 35 girls and young women ready to begin their journey in green technology. The programme is being delivered through WORF’s training centre, which provides participants with access to laptops, facilitators, peer learning and a supportive environment in which they can experiment, collaborate and grow.

Through this partnership, we aim to build a new generation of young women who are not only users of technology but also developers, innovators and leaders capable of designing solutions for Tanzania’s circular economy. By combining digital skills, environmental action and entrepreneurship, the programme will enable young women to participate meaningfully in the growing green and digital economies.

Our partnership with Women Win marks an important step in expanding WORF’s work beyond traditional recycling skills and creating pathways for women and girls to lead technological innovation. We believe that young women must be equipped and supported to shape the digital solutions that will influence the future of their communities and the environment.
